The hosts decided to bat on winning the toss, but soon lost Martin Barry (4). Dale Payne looked comfortable until being caught for 27 with the score on 56 before Bradley Payne fell for 11.

When Pete Beaumont was out for seven, Park were beginning to look in trouble at 97-4 until Ed Smissen (73) and Clive Tong (48) compiled an excellent attacking 96-run partnership. A great cameo from Kellen Powell (26 off 12 balls) took Park to 224-9 at the close of their innings.

A superb one handed slip catch from Smissen off Bradley Payne gave Park their first wicket in the field and another good snare, this time from Beaumont, ended Adam Thornhill’s (43) excellent first team debut.

Dominic Shepheard was caught behind off young Nick Peters for 49 and Claremont School man of the match Smissen’s excellent afternoon continued with the ball, trapping Dale Tranter lbw for seven.

Glynde had reached 140-5 and Park sniffed a chance to rattle through the rest of the batsmen when Peters picked up his second wicket with Darren Howard well caught at third slip by Beaumont.

The visitors’ attacking style early on was now replaced with dogged resistance and despite some inventive bowling changes from Park, they weren’t able to make the final breakthroughs with Glynde finishing on 184-8. Bradley Payne, Smissen and Peters finished with two wickets each.
