Park well placed for promotion tilt

Crowhurst Park would have settled for their present position at the start of the season.

That’s the opinion of captain Paul Lindfield with the Telham club lying third in Sussex Cricket League Division Three (East) a third of the way into the campaign.

He said: “We’re still right up there in the chase and that’s all you can ask for. If you told us at the beginning of the season we would be third at this stage and only 17 points behind the leaders, we would’ve been happy with that.”

Park were setting the pace a fortnight ago on the back of three consecutive victories, but a narrow defeat to Hellingly followed by a frustrating draw away to bottom club Henfield last weekend have seen them drop a couple of places.

After back-to-back away games, Park will return to home soil - where they have won two out of two so far - tomorrow (Saturday) against a Lewes Priory side which is bound to be full of confidence.

Although one place and 14 points adrift of Park, Lewes demolished Hellingly by 206 runs last weekend after bowling them out for a paltry 34 with Tom Sharp taking 7-14 from 7.5 overs.

“We’re looking forward to playing back at home,” added Lindfield, who bludgeoned 53 not out off just 23 balls against Henfield. “We always play well there, but it’s not going to be an easy game.”

Richard Coleman is expected to return in place of Nick Peters for the clash against a Lewes side which was relegated from Division Two last season having been in the Premier League not so long ago. Play is due to start at 1pm.
