East Grinstead's hockey team clinches double titles

A CIVIC reception will be held in East Grinstead to celebrate the historic, nail-biting championship win by the town's hockey heroes.

Town mayor Ginnie Waddingham led the congratulations as news of Sunday's win left East Grinstead clear by just one point at the top of the national premier team table.

The victory meant that East Grinstead has won both the outdoor and indoor titles in the same season.

Cllr Waddingham's husband, Neal, played for the club in the 1970s and 80s and has been involved in training the juniors.

"I'm not sure that everyone realises just what they have done", she said. "To win both titles in one season is such an accolade."

She added: "All the town councillors are just as thrilled as we are and we will hold the reception as soon as it can be arranged. I can't wait - it's so lovely."
