FOOTBALL: County League weekly round-up

LITTLEHAMPTON Football Club exited the FA Vase at the first-qualifying round hurdle on Saturday when they went down 2-1 to division-higher Whitehawk.

Golds, however, pushed Hawks all the way, as they eventually bagged the winner with just seven minutes remaining.

West Tate put Hawks ahead in the 17th minute, but Joel Sayers equalised from the penalty spot after he was brought down on 59 minutes.

Golds' Adam Mitchell had a shot saved, Ross McKay and Ryan Hudson also went close, and just when it seemed as though Golds would earn a replay, Jay Lovett fired home the late winner.

Littlehampton joint manager Gary Young said: "We played very well, and deserved at least a replay. They were hanging on at the end and I'm pleased with our performance.

"It's been a good week and the aim is to finish as high as we can."

Alfie Gritt, another former Worthing United player, made his Golds debut.

Strikes from Jared Lusted and Anthony Cooper put Common 2-0 ahead.

Blues pulled a goal back through a Steve Kirkham penalty on the hour.

Lusted then made it 3-1 only for Kirkham to net a second penalty for handball at the death, but they ran out of time to find an equaliser.

RUSTINGTON; McCarthy; Goff, Curtis, Bashford, James; Green, J.Matthews, Butt, C.Matthews, Duffy; Kirkham. Subs: Cox, Stock (Duffy, James 60), Harris (J.Matthews 75), Barnes, Gibbon.

Arundel assistant manager Simon Butler was left ruing missed chances as his side went down 2-1 at home to Crowborough in Division 1.

Butler said: "It was a poor game between two average sides. We dominated the game but missed so many chances, it's disappointing because we deserved to win."

Russell Hardwell, Rob Grove and Josh Biggs, twice, all went close before Dave Hall fired Mullets ahead in the 48th minute.

Aaron Shade equalised six minutes later, and after Dave Walker missed from three yards, Jamie Buckett's breakaway goal won it for Crows.

Clymping were knocked out in the second round of the Sussex RUR Cup, 2-1 on Saturday, despite pushing Division 1 side Shoreham all the way to extra-time.

Shoreham's Richard Hudson netted the winner early in the extra period, from Owen Callaghan's pass, after Clymping had taken the lead in the second half.

Richy Moss opened the scoring in the 51st minute when he took down a long lofted clearance and tucked the ball away.

Ryan Bradley levelled nine minutes from time from Dan Jordan's flick-on to send the game into extra-time.

Hudson then gave Mussels the lead before Clymping substitute Jan Miller had a late equalising chance saved by Shoreham keeper Michael Hunter.

Clymping player manager Dominic Di Paola said: "We really could have won it but we have given away two bad goals.

"They had lots of possesion but we restricted their chances, but the goal 10 minutes before the end really deflated us.

"However, there are lots of positives to take. They're a top side in Division 1 and we were missing three starting players, so I can't be too critcial."
