Arundel’s response pleases boss Butler

It proved to be a frustrating day for the Mullets as they wasted a host of chances and were forced to settle for a draw.

However, Butler was pleased with his team’s response after a poor performance in their draw at Crawley Down Gatwick on Saturday.

He said: “That was exactly the response I wanted from the players after a really poor performance on Saturday.

“We were great in both halves on Monday and deserved the win.

“We had a whole host of chances and should have netted.

“I don’t think James Fernandes had a save to make in the game, which just shows our dominance.

“The only real concern for me is that we are not taking our chances.

“But, in Scott Tipper and Barney Boutwood, we have two really good strikers and I’m confident they will come good.”

Arundel were dominant for most of the 90 minutes on Monday and should have been ahead at the break.

However, Tipper, Lewis Jenkins and Boutwood were all guilty of spurning chances.

The home side then had a penalty appeal waved away on 65 minutes when Nathan Da Costa went down.

Tipper then scuffed a shot wide from five yards in the dying seconds as it ended scoreless.

Mullets were left frustrated on Saturday when they were held to a draw at second-from-bottom Crawley Down.

Arundel found themselves two goals to the good inside 30 minutes after strikes from Boutwood and Tipper.

The home side reduced the deficit just before the break when Thomas Gannon netted.

Crawley Down then completed the comeback through James Day nine minutes from time.

Butler was disappointed to come away from the game with just a point and said: “We should have taken all three points. We started well but ended the game poorly.”
