Common strike duo heading for Sidley?

Linch accepts that Lewis Hole and Steve Morris will probably step up from Division Two of the Sussex County Football League to Division One with Common’s cross-town rivals.

He said: “Steve Morris contacted me on Friday and said that he’s made the decision to go to Sidley. He wanted to play a higher standard of football and prove to himself that he can still play a higher standard of football.

“I think Lewis could potentially follow Steve to Sidley. It’s not a done deal, but I think he wants to prove to himself that he can play at county one and score a lot of goals.”

Sidley manager John Lambert said: “Steve has assured me he’s coming and Lewis has told me the same thing. I’m hopeful they will sign, but until they actually do, anything can happen.”

Sidley could, however, lose last season’s 15-goal leading scorer Terry Payne due to his residence in London, but Lambert confirmed that “everybody else has said they’re staying”.

Common defender Lee Wood has returned to former club Westfield after an injury-plagued season. They will begin training on Tuesday at 7.15pm for 7.30pm at the Recreation Ground.

Sidley will begin pre-season training on Saturday July 2 and are on the lookout for a new reserve team manager. Interested parties should contact Lambert on 07984 129941 or chairman Dickie Day on 07717 712508.
