Draw sends Littlehampton up to second

LITTLEHAMPTON Football Club twice came from a goal down on Saturday to draw 2-2 with Storrington in County League Division 2.

The point moved Golds up a place to second in the table and Littlehampton manager John Suter described the entertaining draw “a fair result” and also paid tribute to his opposite number, Ricky Hamilton.

He said: “It was a good game to watch, a draw was about right and I’m pleased with our performance against one of the best Storrington sides in years.

“Ricky sets them up to play on the counter-attack and they’re compact and difficult to beat, so Ricky deserves a lot of credit for the system and the way they play.

“Overall, though, I’m pleased and it was a fair result.

“Nathan Peacock did very well after we had to put him at right-back when Darryl (Wollers) went off, and as he’s usually a central midfielder, that was pleasing.”

Swans went in front through Kristian Harding on five minutes, but Golds drew level nine minutes later through Dave Gaskin’s close-range finish after good work involving Jason Jarvis and Peter Beadle.

Dave Tidman restored Swans’ advantage seven minutes into the second half and after Beadle and Barney Boutwood fired efforts wide, Jarvis hit Golds’ second equaliser on 73 minutes from a Beadle cross.

Both sides then went for the win, with Golds’ best chances falling to Gaskin, Boutwood and Beadle.
