Gary Charman encouraged by Horsham despite narrow Faversham defeat
Horsham took a ninth minute lead through Jordan Clarke’s penalty having been fouled in the area by Aidan Sherlock, who was perhaps fortunate to only get a yellow card when arguably the last man.
In-form Faversham equalised just two minutes later through Dan Lawrence and then some rather hesitant defending allowed Lawrence to break into the box, and when goalkeeper Michael Hunter couldn’t hold his shot Lyndon Rowland prodded home to make it 2-1 before half time.

Hide AdBefore Faversham’s second Horsham had a strong shout for a second penalty turned down when the lively Clarke’s cross seemed to hit a defender on the arm.
And despite coming out for the second half strongly, debutant Karl Akehurst’s fine free kick against the crossbar was as close as the battling hosts came to getting something from the game which Charman felt their efforts deserved.
He said: “It’s funny because you can play poorly and feel low, but when you play like we have done tonight and don’t get anything out of the game which we more than deserved, we were the far better side for 75 minutes.
“The lads are gutted, but there’s so many positives to come out of tonight. Just nothing dropped for us, it was one of those days. If we’d have been out there all night I don’t think we’d have scored (a second).”

Hide AdCharman admitted the side allowed their heads to drop after The Lilywhites’ second goal, but he was extremely encouraged by their response after half-time.
“They were superb but the ball just didn’t drop for us,” the player/assistant manager said. “I’m not going to name any names because the whole team was great.
“They give us everything they’ve got, and that’s all we can ask, and if the ball drops in the right areas we score goals.
“It’s really disappointing because we’ve played a lot worse than that and won.”

Hide AdCharman was especially pleased with Jordan Clarke, who made up for last week’s red card with a strong showing on the left of Horsham’s midfield. He was also impressed with striker Trevor McCreadie who again looked lively, and said finding him proper support upfront was something he and manager Simon Colbran had to get right.
