Mullets thrilled with victory over high-flying Peacehaven

ARUNDEL Football Club assistant manager Craig Stuart described his side’s win over sixth-placed Peacehaven as their best victory since he and boss Brett Torode took over in October.

Scott Tipper scored both the goals to take his tally to 33 for the season as Mullets won 2-0, and Stuart said: “We knew if we could keep Ryan Bradley and Chamal Fenelon quiet then we’d be okay as, with the quality we’ve got, we’re always dangerous.

“It was about getting that balance right, and it was the best we’ve played since Brett and I took over.

“There’s a long way to go but it was a good result and an important one with all the teams around us picking up points.”

After a tight first half, the breakthrough arrived on the hour through the prolific Tipper, who finished brilliantly, following a flowing move that involved Lewis Jenkins, Ash Hunter and Rob Grove.

Ryan Peake went close with a header, Seb Keet fired an effort wide and Tipper was just off target before Mullets sealed their ninth league win of the season on 80 minutes.

Norgate was brought down inside the penalty area after a run down the left, and the resultant spot-kick was slotted home by Tipper.

The win on Saturday means Mullets have picked up seven points from their last four games – all against teams in the league’s top six. They have moved four points clear of the relegation zone, ahead of a big match at home to fourth-from-bottom Worthing United on Saturday

Mullets boss Torode is now targeting four more wins from his side’s remaining 11 games, which he feels should be enough to ensure survival, and said: He said: “We’ve done all right in the last four games against top six sides, getting seven points.

“It’s a big one this Saturday. Worthing United are in good form and it will be a good test for us.

“Everyone seems to be picking up down at the bottom but I think if we can get another four wins, that will, hopefully, see us safe.”
