Podmore: I had no option

Jamie Podmore says he had no option but to resign as Bexhill United joint manager.

The former central defender stepped down from the role due to ill health on Tuesday, last week, leaving Darrol Parris to assume sole charge.

Although still not feeling well enough to speak, Podmore (pictured) this week issued the following statement: “Due to unforseen ill health, I had no other option but to step down from my position.

“I now have to concentrate on getting back to full health. I would like to thank Bexhill United for giving me the opportunity this season, and wish Darrol and the players all the best for the rest of the season.”

Parris and Podmore took over at Sussex County Football League Division Two club Bexhill last summer having been player-coach and joint manager respectively of the Sidley United side which won Reserve Section (East) in 2010/11.

But Podmore has been feeling unwell since just before Christmas and hadn’t been able to attend a game or training session since the 2-1 derby victory at home to Little Common on Boxing Day.
