Rampant Rye put nine past Uckfield

Rye United scored seven times during a crazy last 20 minutes to win 9-1 at home to AFC Uckfield on Saturday.

Goals from Matt Maclean and Andy Atkin appeared to have put Rye in command of the Sussex County Football League Division One match during the opening quarter only for a goalkeeping mistake to let Uckfield back in it.

It remained 2-1 until the final quarter when Maclean bagged his second and then the floodgates opened. Dominic Clarke scored a seven-minute hat-trick after coming off the bench, Sam Adams bagged a brace and Atkin got his second.

Elsewhere in the same division, Sidley United held leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe to a goalless draw at Gullivers - a massive improvement on the 9-1 drubbing they took in August’s reverse fixture.

Little Common consolidated third place in Division Two with a 2-0 win at home to Rustington. Both goals came in the second half with Jared Lusted putting Common in front before Jamie Crone added a late second.

Westfield considered themselves fairly unfortunate to lose 2-1 away to fourth-placed Broadbridge Heath, a reversal of the result from the game at Westfield earlier in the season. Nathan Russell scored the goal.

A heavily depleted Bexhill United side was beaten 4-1 away to second-placed Littlehampton Town. Linton Rogers netted the consolation in only Bexhill’s second league defeat of the season.
