Rye aiming to get even stronger

Scott Price plans to make his Rye United squad even stronger over the summer months.

The Quarterboys completed arguably their best ever season last weekend, but Price wants to be better still come the start of the 2011-12 campaign in August.

Rye manager Price said: “I will definitely need to strengthen if we want to compete again. I think we will have a strong side, but there are a few players who need a rocket up their backside if you like.”

The vast majority of the current squad is likely to remain at The Salts, including Sam Cole, even though Price has been contacted by Eastbourne Borough manager Garry Wilson about the indefatigable left-sided player.

Goalkeeper Josh Pelling and centre-half Jono Richardson, two of the stars of 2010-11, are contracted to the club until the end of next term which means Rye would receive a fee if they were to be prized away.

But Danny Leach is expected to move on and so too is Paul Tuppenney, leaving Price looking for a new player/coach. He is also after a new physio because Clifford Bolt has stood down. Price can be contacted on 07912 143287.

Chairman Clive Taylor, who will stay involved, added: “I think we’ve got a great squad of players and I think we’ll keep most of them for next season. We’ve got a good platform to build on and we’ve already had a few people enquire about coming to the club for next season.”
