Sharp-shooting Common bring up 50 league goals
Little Common's footballers have banged in 50 league goals by mid-November.
The 6-0 win at home to Ringmer on Saturday took Common’s tally to 51 strikes in 15 Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division One matches.
Common player-manager Russell Eldridge said: “It’s no mean feat. Some people might disagree, but for me scoring goals and entertainment are what football’s all about. Our loyal supporters quite enjoy their football down there and it’s probably helped by the way we play.
“We’re an attacking team and if you look at the players we have, I guess you could argue we’re always going to score goals. We’re never going to be a team that has boring 1-0s week after week.
“But the most important thing is to win games and sometimes we’re our own worst enemies when it comes to the goals we concede. We just need to get that balance right.”
Fifth-placed Common are the leading scorers in their division, as well as possessing the best goal difference, and are only three points outside the top two.
They will head to ninth-placed Southwick tomorrow (Saturday) aiming to improve on the 3-3 draw in September’s reverse fixture.
Dan Cruikshank, Martin Denny, Lewis Hole and Harry Saville should return, but Jamie Crone has a one-match ban and Dave Ammoun is set to be out for 2-3 months.
Bexhill United, meanwhile, are hoping a return to the scene of their last away victory can kick-start another run.
The Pirates will visit Seaford Town in Southern Combination Football League Division Two tomorrow (Saturday) seeking a repeat of their divisional cup win at the same ground last month.
Joint manager Ryan Light said: “It was the game that kick-started our good little spell (of three straight wins). Now we need to start a new run and we’ve got every chance of picking up points in the next three games. To get in and around the top three or four, we need to put three wins together.”
Sixth-placed Bexhill should be at full strength, with Matt Cunnington set to return. Both games will kick-off at 3pm.
* Bexhill United edged out Little Common in a high scoring under-21 derby at The Polegrove last night (Thursday).
Goals from Josh Pickering (2) and Kevin Barden gave Bexhill a 3-2 victory over crosstown rivals Common, who netted through Jamie Crone and Jonny Sloat.
The result moved Bexhill up a place to eighth in Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Under 21 (East), two positions below Common.
