Anthony Storey has warned his side they must improve after picking up one point from a possible nine in their last three home games.

A bad seven days for Horsham saw a 4-0 reverse to Redhill last Saturday, followed by midweek 2-2 draw with Tooting & Mitcham and capped with a 2-1 defeat to Chipstead at the weekend.

On Saturday’s showing, the joint boss said: “We weren’t at it first half. We were off the pace and really lucky to come in come with the scores at 1-1 at half-time.

“Second half we stepped up and took the game to them and had a couple of good chances. We got hit on the breakaway and they had one shot and made it 2-1.

“It’s disappointing as we should be picking points up at home, but I honestly believe if we had scored with ten minutes to go I think we would have gone on to win the game.

“We have got to be better though, the last two defeats have not been good enough. We have got to keep going, it was never going to be easy, if it was everybody would have wanted the job.”

The Hornets, who are back to second from bottom in the table, will look to get back to winning ways tonight with a trip to promotion-chasing Merstham, who currently sit third in the table.

Storey and Cliff Cant have added yet another signing in midfielder Jacob Peake, who started the season at Worthing and made nine appearances for the Rebels.

The former Brighton youngster goes straight into the squad for tonight’s game as Hornets attempted to complete the double over their hosts.

Storey added: “It’s the same as any game we have to come, they are all going to be tough. We have to go there together, dig in, and be positive.”
