Swans are flying - but leg fracture overshadows win

The SCFL division one win was overshadwed by news Callum Bester suffered a fractured leg shortly after coming on as sub in an innocuous challenge.

He was able to walk off the pitch but an x-ray on Sunday confirmed a fracture.

A fairly even first half ended 0-0 after Billingshurst started brightly and Tom Scott, Dan Evans and Oscar Cutters’ caused problems.

But in the second half the Swans were the better side.

Their first came from a long Iain Jarvie throw which caused confusion and Jordan Suter nipped in to head home.

The second was a fine individual goal from James Henton, who picked the ball up and evaded three defenders in a run before blasting in.

In the 90th minute, Billingshurst’s Robbie Tambling ploughed through the back of a Storrington player and was shown a second yellow card.

Storrington boss Bob Paine said: “It was another solid, resolute performance.

“The work rate and desire was exceptional. It’s been a tough season but we are finally getting the results some of our performances deserve.

“My coaching team have worked very hard to improve us as a group.

“Four of the starting XI are only 18. All the group work so hard to improve.”

Billingshurst manager Lee Spickett said: “We had two good chances which you just have to take. After that we became a team of individuals.

“To say I’m disappointed with the second half performance is an understatement. We will work very hard to get back on track.”
