H&B complete league double over Rye

HASTINGS & Bexhill pulled off a second victory of the season against Sussex Rugby Division One neighbours Rye.

Appalling wind and rain meant handling was tricky and the surface difficult to play on.

Although Rye were never expected to win, they reduced the damage of H&B s 52-0 victory earlier in the season considerably.

Rye limited H&B to a single converted try in the first half with skipper Paul Sandeman putting down after good approach work from Tony Peek.

Sandeman kicked a couple of well-taken penalties soon after the restart and Nick Edmonds added a try after supporting the backs in a move down the left wing.

Colin Brooks completed the scoring when H&B moved the ball up the right after collecting a kicked Rye clearance. Ben Campbell looked set to score but instead laid it off to Brooks who ran through to the line.

Rye travel to UC Chichester on Saturday (February 2) and H&B are at home to Hellingly.
