H&B keen to sort out away form

The rugby club has lost all three of its Kent One fixtures outside William Parker Sports College since the 30-10 victory over HSBC on the opening day back in early September.

“It seems like an age ago,” said Kevin Smith of his first league game as head coach. “To win anything you’ve got to play well away. You’ve got to really work hard and I think the guys are beginning to open their eyes to that.”

Following a very welcome weekend off, H&B travel to Cranbrook tomorrow in sixth place with four wins and four defeats. Cranbrook are third-from-bottom with two wins from eight outings.

Smith continued: “Everybody below us we’ve targeted. There’s no reason why we can’t win these games. We must get in that top half of the league. We want to finish in the top five, top three would be great.”

With Smith heading off to South Africa for a fortnight, former H&B captain Neil Redman, pictured, will take over the coaching duties, working closely with backs coach Kit Claughton and the senior players.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Rye RFC will play only their second Sussex One fixture since October 8 when they host Holbrook. Kick-off at New Road is 2.30pm.
