Heat give Thunder a tough warm-up

THUNDER move on Saturday into their first league match in defence of their English League championship title.

Their opponents will be likely rivals London Leopards so their BBL Trophy match against division-higher Guildford will not hinder their preparations. Leopards lost 109-72 at BBL team Leicester Riders in the same competition on Saturday.

If Worthing emerge on Saturday to their satisfaction, their trip to Canterbury on Sunday in the National Cup, to face Kent Crusaders from EBL Division 2, will come that much easier.

Guildford should be among the BBL contenders and Thunder were never likely to topple them, in front of the biggest crowd so far this season. That Worthing fantasy had evaporated by the start of the fourth quarter. Heat's all-action, 6ft 7in forward Chad McKnight had scored 12 points in the second quarter, then 13 in the third to clinch the outcome.
