Javed's already one of Sidley's 'greats'

IMRAN Javed already ranks among the best overseas players that Sidley Cricket Club have ever had according to skipper Scott Woodroffe.

The Pakistani express bowler ( has set Sussex Division Two alight in his first season at the club, taking 21 wickets from the four matches in which he has bowled in addition to a shed-load of runs with the bat.

Such has been Javed's impact that Woodroffe has mentioned him in the same breath as Aussie star Greg Horan, who graced the Gullivers outfit with six years of magnificent service during the 90s.

Woodroffe said: "Imran's got everyone at the club talking and he's a good example to us all.

"It was a pleasure to watch him all day on Saturday and he gives 110 per cent all the time.

"He has the potential to be one of the best overseas players Sidley has had - in terms of being a match-winner he's already right up there.

"He just bowls very, very straight. He doesn't give the batsmen any width and he doesn't bowl any rubbish. If he does bowl a bad ball he beats himself up!

"I think he will be in the league's top three for both batting and bowling at the end of the season. The effect he's had on the club has just been amazing. Not only is he a good player, he's a lovely guy as well."

Sidley entertain newly relegated Haywards Heath tomorrow (Saturday) with Chris Hunnisett and Adam Berger vying for a place.
