Mullets target second place

ARUNDEL Football Club will finish second in the County League if they win their remaining three matches.

Second-placed Whitehawk have completed their programme, and are nine points ahead of Mullets, who have a far superior goal difference.

A rare Dave Hall goal, seven minutes from time on Tuesday, grabbed Mullets all three points at Sidley, who are now relegated.

Hall struck with a left-foot volley from 18 yards for just his second goal of the season.

Sidley still almost equalised on 87 minutes, but Arundel keeper Ben O'Connor brilliantly denied Jimmy Watson.

Mullets went close to taking the lead three times in the first half. Chris Hibberd was denied by Sidley's keeper, Dave Walker's 14-yard header from Matt Huckett's free kick hit the bar, and Josh Biggs also saw his effort saved.

Sidley's Billy Trickett fired just wide on 60 minutes, before Arundel midfielder Rob Grove's powerful 25-yard shot hit the bar and bounced on the line.

Arundel complete their league season with two matches against bottom-club Rye, and at champions Crowborough.
