No need to panic reassures Laskey

SIDLEY United joint manager Andy Laskey feels that his team are entering a crucial phase of the Sussex Division One season even at such a formative stage.

The Blues have just one point from three games and their run of away games continues on Saturday August 28 with a tough trip to East Preston, who finished third last season.

The match would be tricky enough with a full-strength line-up but Sidley will be without the services of over half their front line side, including four strikers. Kevin Rose, Mickey O'Callaghan and Jimmy Watson are all suspended, while Jordan Wood and Steve Morris are on holiday, and Keith Miles is an injury doubt.

Laskey said: "I do actually (think it will be an important phase). We've got to pick up as many points as we can especially in the next three weeks. I can't see any reason to panic as such but we want to get a win soon.

"Two of the lads came to us after the game (Saturday's 4-2 loss at Hassocks) and said 'we let you down today' and we've got to put something right this week. I don't think (all the chopping and changing of personnel) helps but to be fair to the players who came in they did well and I've got every faith in the youngsters."

United, who visit Whitehawk for a SCFA RUR Charity Cup tie on Tuesday evening, are on the verge of securing Billy Trickett from Eastbourne Borough's reserve set-up and Wayne Farrier played 35 minutes of the second string's 1-0 triumph at Hassocks on Friday night.

Bexhill United are without a competitive fixture this weekend and will instead endeavour to right the wrongs of their 3-0 defeat to Storrington last weekend in a friendly against East Sussex Premier League outfit Peche Hill Select. They resume Sussex Division Three action the following Saturday at new boys Rustington.
