Meads Tennis Club hold enthralling finals day
32 players taking part in 9 categories served up a feast of exciting tennis for the carefully socially distanced spectators to enjoy.
The day started with a thoroughly entertaining ladies singles final when defending champion Lucy Parkin took on new member Polly McCarthy. Both players produced some excellent tennis but in the end McCarthy’s formidable forehand and strong serve carried her to the title.

Hide AdMeanwhile the mens doubles final saw brothers Chris and Anthony Rummins do battle with Daniel Wasp and Noel Bennett. Some great rallies were seen but in the end the class and consistency of the Rummins brothers saw them triumph.
The Veterans Ladies doubles produced victory for Lorna Holloway and Gill Collins over Mary Sherlock and Sue Francis whilst in the Veterans Mens doubles the title went to Nick Price and John Haining who defeated Ian Kerr and Bernard Lien-Lambert. The Veterans Mixed Doubles was another close and entertaining encounter but in the end Mary Thorn and Colin Lockett edged out Peter Stretton and Val Rimmer.
The ladies doubles final saw Lucy Parkin and Polly McCarthy meet up again on opposite sides of the net with Parkin partnered by Hazel Sneath and McCarthy teaming up with Gabriela Pacheco-Lagoda. McCarthy and Pacheco-Lagoda secured the title in straight sets.
The mixed doubles turned out to be one of the closest matches of the day with Hazel Sneath and Chris Rummins edging past Simon and Jess Gisby in a tussle that went all the way to a tense championship tie break.

Hide AdThe Plate final sealed an unforgettable tournament for Polly McCarthy who secured her third title of the day partnering Chris Kilroy against Andrew Murphy and Jess Gisby in another match that could only be decided by a third set tie break.
The final match was a great spectacle for the crowd as Jung Tadsee and Chris Rummins produced some high quality tennis in the mens singles final with Jung Tadsee claiming victory in yet another third set tie break.
