Former Chichester RFC junior Jess Breach helped England’s Red Roses continue their 100 per cent record at the World Cup in New Zealand and go through to a quarter-final against Australia this weekend.

Parents John and Tricia, from Felpham, were in the crowd in Auckland as Breach and co thrashed South Africa 75-0 to top their group and set up Sunday’s last-eight clash with the Aussies.

John told us: “The atmosphere was great, there were a lot of England supporters in the crowd, along with the friends and family of the girls who had made the trip to NZ.

"It was a very proud and special moment to see Jess run out to play in her first World Cup match and to catch up with her after the game.

"The local children all seemed to know her and want pictures – so it felt like being at home!

"The strength of the Red Roses forwards and kicking dominated the game, especially in the first half; in the second there was a little more running with the ball across the team.

“Now it’s a quarter-final versus Australia, and it could be interesting as they like to play with width.”

Breach, who has battled back from a couple of serious injuries to take her place in the World Cup squad, did not play in the first two group games – against France, who came second in the group, and Fiji. But she made the most of her chance as she helped England to a 13-try demolition job.
