SAILING

TWO Fevas purchased early in the season were put to good use at the West Sussex Schools and Youth Sailing Association Regatta.

This hugely successful weekend was hosted by Arun Youth Aqua Centre.

The Sussex Masonic Charities through their Sussex4sussex charity fund surprised the centre with an award of 8,000 for two more Fevas at its award presentation evening at the Normandy Centre, Horsham.

Roger Elliman (centre chairman) attended the presentation with two centre members, James Millett and Cheryl Skinner, and James's father John. John had put the centre in touch with the sponsoring Bishop Edward Story Lodge, late last year and the award was presented by Provincial Grand Master Ian H Lay.

Roger said the centre relies on fundraising to maintain its excellent facilities.

Its prime aim is to encourage youngsters from non-sailing backgrounds in the area to achieve positive experiences by improving their social skills and abilities through sailing.

It will go on replacing some of the older and less fashionable dinghies enabling some of the youngsters to compete in the RYA recognised youth classes at local and national events. It is hoped that the dinghies will be in place before the centre season winds up at the end of October.
