Saxons clinch Plate glory

South Saxons Hockey Club won the Sussex Plate on Saturday.

Saxons were 2-0 winners in the final against Middleton & Bognor at Worthing HC thanks to a goal in either half from Alex Coombs and Jon Meredith.

Dom Ford was man of the match for a Saxons side missing Paddy Cornish, George Eldridge, Tim Eldridge and John Morgan, although Coombs and Gavin Cload also performed well.

The victory meant Saxons ended the season unbeaten in 25 matches having finished runners-up in South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One. Middleton were 10th in the same division.

Saxons: Deaves, Watters, Read, Klein, Ford, Meredith, Cload, Burnett, S. Bunday, Swanton, Coombs, Whitehouse, Busbridge.
