Sidley deserved better than a draw

SIDLEY United were held to a 1-1 draw away to Peacehaven & Telscombe on Tuesday March 12 despite dominating most of the game.

It was back to the old routine for the Blues who resembled their old selves again after a run of poor performances.

Joint manager Peter Heritage said: "We played a lot better than we have done for a few weeks and I thought we deserved to win.

"We went at them very early on and played at a very high tempo, and I don't think they had many chances at all. They were certainly a lot happier with the result than we were."

United keeper Danny Poole made an important point blank save early on and Peacehaven were unable to create little else for the rest of the game.

Jimmy Watson gave Sidley the lead in the 38th minute, with a dipping volley from a half clearance.

A dubious penalty brought the hosts level with Leighton Allen scoring his 19th goal of the season.

Heritage nearly restored the lead early in the second half with a good header but the Peacehaven keeper pulled off a smart save.

Kevin Rose, Paul Balch and Dave Ward all came close late on.
