Sidley skipper dismisses one man team claims

SIDLEY Cricket Club captain Scott Woodroffe has sung the praises of Pakistani sensation Imran Javed while dismissing suggestions they are a one man team.

Javed obliterated the Littlehampton attack to all parts of the Gullivers ground in his superb vigil of 119 before proceeding to rip through the opposition's batting line-up, taking six wickets.

This stunning performance came hot on the heels of an unbeaten 57 and a trio of victims with the ball on his competitive debut against Preston Nomads the previous week.

His impression has been instant but Woodroffe was keen to stress the efforts of others in Sidley's early season success. He said: "Despite how brilliantly he played on Saturday you could not say it was just a one man show - we could have easily drawn it. Although he got 119 and six wickets we were looking at a draw really but Guy Montgomery came on and got two really important wickets and without that we wouldn't have won the game."

He went on: "Imran is genuinely quick. Having a genuine strike bowler in the team will always show. There's definitely more to come from him."

Sidley totalled 248-7 and Littlehampton were skittled out for 119, with Javed picking up 6-27. Montgomery claimed 2-11.

Sidley will look to continue the momentum when they visit Roffey on Saturday May 17.
