Sidley snap-up talented Aussie all-rounder

AN up-and-coming young Australian will be Sidley Cricket Club's overseas player for the coming Sussex League season.

Nineteen-year-old Manjot Singh, who plays A grade cricket in Sydney, will bring his burgeoning skills to Gullivers for the 2007 Division Two campaign.

Captain Scott Woodroffe said: "He seems really keen. We wanted someone young who can do a bit of both (batting and bowling) and he ticked all the boxes really."

The New South Wales under-19s ace is better known as a left-handed batsman, although he is also a useful right arm off break bowler.

He plays for the same UTS-Balmain Cricket Club which ex-England star Graham Thorpe represented last season.

Singh holds an ACB level one coaching certificate and will work closely with the club's colts section after his anticipated arrival on April 11/12.

Sidley have arranged indoor net practice sessions at Hillcrest School on the dates and times shown below: Sunday 11.30am-1pm; March 18 12noon-1.30pm; March 25 12noon-1pm; April 1 12noon-1.30pm. New and existing players are welcome.
