Snooker pair sparkle in Rotterdam

St Leonards-based made it to the quarter-finals of a tournament also known as European Tour event two and Robertson, from Bexhill, made it to the last 16. The pair are joint seventh on the European Tour order of merit.

Davis firstly saw off English amateur Michael Georgiou 4-2. A break of 51 put him 3-2 up and he eventually scraped over the line on the black in the next having opened the frame with a 53.

The 2012 Six Reds World Champion then outgunned Lee Page 4-1. He took the first two frames with a top run of 55 and despite losing the third, rattled through the fourth and fifth with breaks of 58 and 76.

Davis, the world number 15, outgunned Maltese veteran Tony Drago 4-2 in the last 32. Runs of 75 and 89 helped him into a 3-1 lead before a 61 closed out the match in frame six.

The 40-year-old beat David Grace 4-1 in the last 16. After winning the first frame with a 51 but losing the second, Davis reeled off three in a row with best efforts of 87 and 62 in the last two.

Davis came from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 in his quarter-final against Gary Wilson with runs of 47, 62, 80 and 71. He opened frame six with a 44, but lost that and the decider for a 4-3 defeat.

Robertson pulled off one of the biggest wins of his career with a 4-3 victory over world number three Judd Trump in the last 32. Robertson came from 60 points behind to pinch the opening frame only for Trump to level with a 72.

World number 49 Robertson took the next two to lead 3-1, winning the third with breaks of 47 and 48, and the fourth with a 70. Trump made a 125 to clinch the fifth and got back to 3-3 by edging the sixth 50-48 thanks to a 40 clearance. Robertson took a scrappy decider by potting brown, blue and pink.

That win set up another eye-catching match against Mark Selby. Robertson scored the first 63 points, but Selby came back to pinch the opening frame by a point via a 50 clearance. Robertson scored just 16 points thereafter as second-ranked Selby sealed a 4-0 win in under an hour with breaks of 77 and 132.

Robertson, who has enjoyed a strong start to the 2013/14 season, began the tournament with a 4-1 victory over Chris Norbury and a 4-2 success against David Morris.
