Stacey joining Dockers

County League ThreeBosham 1 Newhaven 0County League ThreeNewhaven 3 Forest 1The Dockers's manager Jason Tighe is to sign ex-Ringmer and Eastbourne Town central defender Gary Stacey as Newhaven look to next season.

Tighe said: 'Gary's a good defender and I've been looking for someone to replace my ageing legs at the back.'

Newhaven have only a mathematical chance of promotion this season after they went down to bottom-of-the-table Bosham on Saturday.

Tighe said: 'They were rubbish and we were even worse. They hoofed it forward and seemed to get all the ricochets.

'It was a case of after the Lord Mayor's Show following our great division three cup win over Rustington.

'Jason Goddard did hit their crossbar but we've got no real excuses, it was our poorest performance since I've been at the club.

'I was lacking my three senior goalkeepers and 16-year-old youth team player Joe Beard made his debut. He did alright.'

Tighe made his feelings felt before Tuesday's visit from Forest and the Dockers's players responded.

Tighe said: 'In the first 15 minutes we were different class, all over them, but then we seemed to take our foot off the pedal.

'Then we got going again at the start of the second half and Kieron Perkins really turned on the style.'

Newhaven went ahead on 48 minutes when Ross Newman turned and shot, the ball ricocheted and then spun over the goalkeeper.

Poor defending let in Forest for the equaliser but two moments of magic from Perkins sealed the points.

On 76 minutes Perkins ran at the Forest defence and played a delightful ball through and Newman took it in his stride and slotted home.

And four minutes later he produced a similar run and fed Jimmy Saville, who applied the finishing touch.

It might have been 4-1 when Newman set up Tighe with a great pass but the manager fired over from six yards.

Newhaven go to Bognor to face South Bersted in the Vernon Wentworth Cup tomorrow and Tighe is expecting a tough game.

He said: 'They're a feeder club for Bognor Regis and I have Perkins unavailable and Gary Holmes still injured.'
