STOCK CAR RACING: Angmering race report (October 26)

THE grey skies and constant rain could not put a damper on the day's racing action at Angmering on Sunday (October 26).

The drivers fought it out in atrocious conditions to claim vital points at the close of the Track Championship series.

The stock car racing stars of the future controlled their cars well on a rain-slicked track. When the last car had slid home, the overall track champion in the Junior Rods was Ryan Lilleywhite. Craig Cooper wsa second, and Jamie Lee Potter third.

The Junior Production Stock champion was Cray Ingram, who held off Paul Redwell and Aidan Stoner to take the title.

The adult formulas drivers also had their work cut out in holding their racing lines, and keeping their cars from a race-ending meeting with the safety fence. The Production A class champion was Wayne Warner. Stuart Hill came second, and Matt Goldswain third.

In the equally rain-soaked Production B class, it was Simon Jonestook who took first place. Ben Blackman was second, and Matt Goldswain third.

Modified C saw George Streeter take the silverware, ahead of Vickie Steege and Paul Temple.

There were also wins for Graham Rainsbury in the Hot Rods, Terry McNair in the Production Stox Novices, and Piers Brunton in the Production Stox.

The powerful Saloon Rods struggled with the slippery track conditions, with many drivers turning their car sideways during the races. The championship title went to Jon Sayers in the front wheel drive rods. Andrew McKenzie was second, and Graham Rainsbury third. The rear-wheel drive champion was Andy Stevens.

Stuart Smith was the Street Stox winner, ahead of Andy Harris and Robert Shine.

And the nudge and spin Banger formula saw Michael Jackson crunch his way to the top spot, beating Peter McNicholas into second, while Matt Evans and Alan Byles shared third.

There will be more action at Angmering on November 9, when the winter season gets underway with the Hot Rod Open meeting.
