Streetball skills on display

HASTINGS just missed out on lifting the 3 on 3 basketball tournament when they were pipped 30-20 by defending champions AKA Towers in the final.

The Porter Associates Financial Services-sponsored event at Hastings YMCA provided some of the best streetball skills ever seen in Sussex.

Other local teams taking part included Bexhill Giants, 3BS and Streetball Zone.com who were up against strong opposition such as Hillingdon (London United), CCCT (London), TV Unit (London), Towers, Dorrington Diamonds (Chichester) and Eastbourne's South Coast Dream. The beaten semi-finalists were Hillingdon, who lost 23-17 against Hastings, and CCCT, who were pipped 21-20 by Towers.

Tournament organiser Eric Douglin said: "It was great to see so many teams from outside the area take part. They all said they enjoyed the tournament and promised to take part next year. The youngsters watching would have learnt a lot from seeing the skills of some of the players on display and this will hopefully encourage more to take part in the sport."
