UNITED DRAW FIRST BLOOD

TWO SUBSTITUTES combined to give Worthing United an important cup victory at the Robert Albon Ground against league rivals on Saturday. Stuart Sell's finish from Michael Simms' pass put United into the third round and scored a psychological blow against a team sitting below them in the table on goal difference alone.

But Midhurst will wonder what might have been if striker James Glue had not come unstuck, contriving to miss an open goal from eight yards after United keeper Dean Fuller's fumble in the 81st minute.

Tom Gomez opened the scoring on 30 minutes, calmly placing the ball in the roof of the net after Midhurst keeper Alex Wadey failed to deal with Jason Hughes' corner.

The second came 15 minutes later with Stuart Anderson bundling home his seventh goal this season,

from Lee Weston's cross.
