Wickers extend unbeaten run

SOUTHWICK Football Club extended their unbeaten run to five games and defender Lee Thompson continued his hot goalscoring run at Wealden on Saturday.

Wes Tate and Dan Poulton had opportunities for Wealden before Thompson gave Wickers the lead from the penalty spot on 25 minutes. It was his third succesful spot-kick in as many games and he has now converted six in Wickers' last 11 matches.

Captain Neil Harris' driving run into the penalty area was ended by an Ollie Howcroft challenge and Thompson fired home the penalty.

Southwick doubled their lead two minutes before half-time. Left-back Harry Constable played a one-two with Adam Steele before firing into the top corner.

Wealden threatened to get a goal back in the second half but were unable to find a way past veteran keeper Keith Cheal.

Grant Bean could have increased Southwick's lead but his strong run down the left ended in his final shot going just wide. Jamie Stideford also went close but his effort was saved.

SOUTHWICK: Cheal; Lipscombe, T.Timms, Thompson, Constable; Elliott, Ricky Timms, Harris, Steele; Green, Bean. Subs: Stideford (Steele 70), Macabie (Elliott 80), Maltman (Bean 85).
