WORTHING OFF THE MARK

HAVING DISCOVERED a week earlier in Essex what happens when concentration slips, Worthing gave Bishop's Stortford neighbours Harlow the runaround on Saturday before chalking up their maiden win up in their new uncharted division.

Even so, they had periods when they seemed to doze off and let their opponents drive them back. For example, Having quickly built up an 8-0 lead through a try by Simon Alcott and a penalty from Ben Coulson, they relaxed; soon Harlow's Paul Enyon was over for an unconverted try.

For a while, Worthing let the Harlow backs seem dangerous. However, the defence was sound and firm, quick tackles often caught the Harlow men with no support, leading to a whole succession of penalties to Worthing for not releasing the ball.

Eventually, as half-time approached, Worthing got back into gear when Terry Butler started a move by battering his way forward, then, in the next phase, being on hand to weave his way over the line.
