Young footballers celebrate season

AROUND 360 youngsters turned out at Little Common Recreation Ground on Sunday to celebrate the climax of the East Sussex Mini Minor League season.

Former Hastings Town manager Garry Wilson, who is now in charge of promoted Eastbourne Borough, and Borough player Darren Baker were on hand to present the prizes in recognition of some marvellous football throughout the campaign.

Mini Minor League fixture secretary Sarah Mitchell said: "It was a great day of football. We managed to dodge the rain and it was a really good way to end the season."

Two cup finals were played on the day itself with Little Common Colts triumphing in a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Guestling Rangers Red to claim the u10s Western Division Cup and Sedlescombe Rangers Royals took the u10s Eastern Division Cup after seeing off Hastings Town White.

Royals also laid their hands on the Eastern Division league championship while the sportsmanship trophy was clinched by Guestling Rangers Blue. Sedlescombe Rangers were the recipients of the Western Division title with Pevensey & Westham earning the sportsmanship accolade.

Hastings Gunners Blue completed the u9s Eastern Division league and sportsmanship double while Gunners Yellow were named the best behaved side in the Western Division but the league title went to Westfield Blue. The Southern Division prizes were the preserve of Little Common with the league going to Colts and the sportsmanship to Rovers.
