Youth rugby round-up: Horsham cruise to Pulborough Festival title

Showing true class in both attack and defence the Green and Whites conceded just two tries in their pool games while scoring 21 tries. To make the final they beat Hove convincingly in the semi final scoring five tries and then they went on to win the a well fought contest against Pulbrorough in the final scoring another five tries to be crowned champions.

Head coach Justin Acres commented: “On behalf of the coaching team and all at HRFC we would like to congratulate all the squad on a fantastic performance, every player took the responsibility to wear the Horsham shirt with pride and it was great to see all the hard work pay off.”

Under-15

Horsham signed-off their league campaign in style with an excellent 36-5 victory against a spirited Crowborough,

Sam Mitchell claimed a hat trick of tries, the pick of which was the final score of the day.

The Horsham forwards were hungry for the ball and were consistently first to the breakdown from start to finish, tackled well, had parity in the scrummage as they dominated the line out. The front row of hooker Todd Lowe and props Bryn Bloodworth, Rhodri Martin and Joe Roche all put in a shift, as did the flankers: Luke Saunders was lively and man-of-the-match Paul Schroter put in some great tackles.

George Palmer deputized admirably for injured James Tandy at full back, and after good interplay with centre Alex Clery, winger Mitchell was put in for the first Horsham try. Scrum Half Nick Bayne spotted a gap and ran through for try two, converted by Rowan Murphy-Hunt for a 12-0 half time lead.

After the break, a break from fly half Callum Boswell, supported by superb teamwork, put Mitchell in for his second try. Nathan Kennell bagged try number four, which Murphy-Hunt converted, and George Palmer ran 60 metres for the fifth try, also converted by Murphy-Hunt.

Crowborough never gave up and Camis touched down for their only score, a forwards try in the corner.

Finally, for the Green and Whites, Mitchell seal his treble with a 75 metre run from deep in his own half to make it 36-5.
