Democracy4Bexhill now has more than 250 supporters signed up to take part in the community governance review which starts on January 9.

The group asked people to pledge to get involved at a stall at the light switch-on and late night shopping event in the town centre and the campaigners were buoyed up the positive response they got from revellers and shoppers alike.

One of the groups’ organisers, Christine Bayliss, said: “We signed up over 100 new supporters with a lot of young people showing a real interest in Bexhill people having more of a say in how Bexhill is run.”

Democracy4Bexhill wants as many people as possible to tell Rother District Council how they think Bexhill should be governed in the review, with options for its own town council among the ideas.

The review was launched after campaigners handed the council a petition calling for it.

The group is planning to hold its own events when the consultation starts as well as put out detailed pros and cons for each possible option.
